OGDEN – Vern Lars Owens died Friday, October 18, 1996 at his home in Ogden. He was born December 26, 1946 in Ogden, a son of Millard Woodrow and Winnie Baker Owens. He married Kathy Joan Blasko on November 24, 1972. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Temple on March 15, 1988.

Vern served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He worked for many years in the asphalt-paving business; he also worked at Hill Air Force Base.

He enjoyed bowling and was known to his bowling friends as "Oscar." He especially loved his children, spending many hours supporting their activities and coaching their basketball and baseball teams. His greatest joy was his two grandchildren. He is now free of the pain and turmoil he suffered throughout his life. His gospel questions have now been answered. We love him and will miss him very much.

Surviving are his wife, Joan; three sons: Stuart Lars (Kay) Owens; Nathan J. Owens, and Aaron Vern Owens; two daughters: Lisa (Jon) Bell and Natalie Ann (Mark) Navoni; two grandchildren: Morgan Hope Owens and Taylor Joseph Navoni, all of Ogden. Also surviving is one brother, John L Owens, Roy; and two sisters, Anita D. (Jeff) Freeman, Long Beach, CA and Elizabeth J Martin, Garden Grove, CA. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, a sister-in-law and a brother-in-law.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 22, 1996 at Myers Mortuary in Ogden. Interment in the Hooper Cemetery.
